House Train Your Puppy in 7 Days or Less

A few simple tips can make all the difference when house training puppies.

#1. Never clean up your puppy's mess with a cleaner that contains ammonia... it's a signal to your puppy to "pee here!"

#2. Choose your puppy's crate or den wisely. Big enough for it to stand up and turn around in. Make it too big and your puppy will feel insecure.

#3. Get into a routine. Take your puppy outside at the following times:
        - First thing in the morning
        - Before feeding time.
        - 10 to 20 minutes after feeding time
        - Last thing at night

#4. If there's no action after 10 minutes outside, put your puppy back in it's crate for 10 to 15 minutes, then take outside again.

#5. Give lots of praise if it "does the business".

#6. Learn your puppy's body language to know when it needs to go outside.

#7. Restrict your puppy to rooms that have washable floors until it is potty trained.

Simply taking your puppy out in the backyard a few times every day is not the way to house train a puppy. After all, how do they know what they are being taken outside for?
